Do It Yourself

“He who enters the evening exhausted by his work, will sleep free of sins.”—At-Tabaraani

One day, imam Jafar al-Sadiq {R} was busy working in his garden, wearing working clothes with spade in hand, when one of his friends, Abu Umro Shaibani arrived.

Seeing him drenched in perspiration because of the heat and labour, he thought there was need for a labourer, wondering why the imam had opted to work all by himself.

He stepped forward and said, “Let me help you finish this work.”

The imam said, “No (I won’t let you finish my work). I like working on the farm with my own hands.

It is necessary for man to face the heat of the sun and feel the exhaustion of earning one’s own living.”

Quite true because the Prophet {S} had said:

“He who enters the evening exhausted by his work, will sleep free of sins.”—At-Tabaraani

May AllahSWT endow us with the will to work. Aameen
