Divine Preordainments

“And the Command of Allah is a decree determined.” (V.33:38)   The truth about the mystery of this life is that everything that will happen from beginning until the end has been predetermined by Allah. Everything is pre-planned including the good, the bad and the tragic, nothing is left out in the master blueprint of Our Creator. Everything occurs according to the Will of Allah, this is so true that we must firmly believe it in our heart to be so, if we are to remain on the right of path of Islam. The following hadith from Sahih Bukhari narrated by Usama explains this further: “Once while I was with the Prophet and Sa`d, Ubai bin Ka`b and Mu`adh were also sitting with him, there came to him a messenger from one of his daughters, telling him that her child was on the verge of death. The Prophet told the messenger to tell her, it is for Allah what He takes, and it is for Allah what He gives, and everything has its fixed time (limit). So (she should) be...

Three Behaviours of True Believers

Today, our focus is on eemaan (faith). Eemaan (faith) is sometimes a tricky thing to evaluate as a significant portion of it is purely a matter of the heart. However, some aspects of eemaan has to do with our actions. And out of many possible good deeds, three actions are so relevant to true belief that our Prophet (SAW) mentioned them in a complete hadith. Now, let’s get down to the tradition of Imam Bukhari below to understand what I mean. Abu Huraira (RA) narrated that; The Prophet (ﷺ) said: "Whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should not hurt his neighbor. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should serve his guest generously. And whoever believes in Allah and the Last Day, should speak what is good or keep silent." Therefore, if you want to boost your eemaan in a practical way on any given day, just do any one of these three things: refrain from hurting your neighbour, serve your guest very well and say nothing (to others and even yours...

The Preservation of Religion: Islam

“Allah Almighty has made clear by many of His laws that the purpose is to establish justice between his servants and for people to behave fairly. Whichever path leads to justice and fairness is part of the religion.” Ibn Qayyim (RA)   Islam is the sum of beliefs, rituals and tenets commanded by Allah (SWT) to regulate people's relationship to Him and their relationships with each other. Allah, the Majestic and Sublime acts with wisdom and purpose in everything He commands, including the Islamic Legal rulings that guide the actions of His slaves. Thus, the principal objectives of Sharia are 5 and they are: 1} Preservation of Religion 2} Preservation of Lives 3} Preservation of Intellect 4} Preservation of Lineage 5} Preservation of Wealth. The Islamic Law (Sharia) protects these fundamental five in two ways: first, by ensuring their establishment and second, by preserving them. However, for today’s article we shall focus on the number one only: the p...

Humility and Success

If anyone finds it challenging to stay humble as a result of his or her success, I present the following hadith to enlighten such a person. In the narration, we can see the most successful person to ever walk on the face of the earth demonstrated to us the futility of arrogance in any creation—no matter the rank or position. In the Sahih of Ibn Mājah, the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: “I am the master of the children of Adam, and it is no boast. I will be the first for whom the earth is split on the Day of Resurrection, and it is no boast. I will be the first to intercede and whose intercession will be accepted, and it is no boast.  The banner of praise will be placed in my hand, and it is no boast.” Look at the brilliant example from our dear prophet (SAW). He is the most honoured of all humans. The only person who has the right to be proud, yet he makes it clear through his words and action that humility, not arrogance is always ...
