The Prophets Are Our Best Role Models

As Muslims who desire to gain the pleasure of Allah (SWT), we need to make sure that all our acts of worship emanate from Him and not from any other source, not from our own impulses or what we merely see some well-meaning people doing.

This is because Allah alone decides what is a sound form of worship and He alone decides the reward for each act of worship. So we would be wise to make sure that we are following His guidance as established in the Quran and the Sunnah of His Beloved Prophet (SAW).

In His messengers—the number one of which is Muhammad (SAW)—are the most excellent examples. And to prove this point, we shall examine a verse of the Quran and a hadith from Sahih Muslim.

In the Quran, Suratul Ahzab verse 21, Allah SWT says:

“The Messenger of Allah is certainly a good example for those of you who have hope in Allah and in the Day of Judgement and who remember Allah very often.”

On the authority of Abu Hurayrah (RA): The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) said, “Allah the Almighty is Good and accepts only that which is good. And verily Allah has commanded the believers to do that which He has commanded the Messengers.

So the Almighty has said: “O (you) Messengers! Eat of the tayyibat [all kinds of halal (legal) foods], and perform righteous deeds.” [23:51] and the Almighty has said: “O you who believe! Eat of the lawful things that We have provided you.” [2:172]”

Then he (ﷺ) mentioned [the case] of a man who, having journeyed far, is disheveled and dusty, and who spreads out his hands to the sky saying:

“O Lord! O Lord!,” while his food is haram (unlawful), his drink is haram, his clothing is haram, and he has been nourished with haram, so how can [his supplication] be answered?

Again, let’s remember that the guidance of Islam comes from none other than Allah, and He has conveyed that guidance through none other than His messengers, the last of whom is our beloved Prophet Muhammad (SAW).

May Allah (SWT) save us from misguidance and from the evil of our own selves. Aameen
